VTKD’s Next World Stage
The historic Taekwondowon venue will welcome VTKD’s third World Championships, marking another confirmed step in our expanding international calendar.
World Taekwondo (WT) has confirmed that Taekwondowon, in Muju, North Jeolla Province, will host the 2027 World Taekwondo Virtual Championships, which is set to happen in June 2027. The Host City Contract was signed on 5 September 2026 by World Taekwondo (WT), the Taekwondo Promotion Foundation (TPF), the Korea Taekwondo Association (KTA), and Muju County.
A Venue Rich with History
Taekwondowon is one of the most recognisable facilities in the taekwondo world — it hosted the 2017 World Taekwondo Championships and has run multiple Grand Prix Challenge events in the years since. It’s clear that Muju already knows how to run a world stage. 2027 is simply the next chapter to add to it — with VTKD now part of that history.
What’s Next for VTKD
WT President Dr. Choue used the signing to point beyond 2027, noting that discussions are underway to bring VTKD into other major multi-sport events, including the European Games, with the World University Games also under consideration.
Ng Chong Geng, Executive Director of Refract Technologies, frames this announcement as a moment for the wider VTKD community.

Knowing what’s ahead gives everyone something concrete to train towards, and we can’t wait to see our athletes step onto that stage in Muju.”
