Virtual Taekwondo (VTKD) has been officially confirmed as part of the 20th Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026, marking the sport’s debut on one of Asia’s most prestigious multi-sport stages.
The announcement was made by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), with the Games scheduled to run from 19 September to 4 October 2026 across Nagoya and the wider Aichi Prefecture in Japan. VTKD joins a programme of 43 sports, making its Asian Games debut alongside other newly introduced disciplines, including padel and teqball.
This confirmation is a significant milestone in VTKD’s competitive journey. Since our debut at the Olympic Esports Series in 2023 and the World Championships in 2024, VTKD has grown into a globally recognised competitive sport — and the Asian Games marks our first appearance at a continental multi-sport event.

The confirmation also comes at a time of real momentum. In 2026 alone, VTKD has featured at the Rome Grand Prix at the Foro Italico, is heading to the 2026 Chuncheon Korea Open in July, and is currently on display at the Olympic Museum in Lausanne as part of the Ahead of the Curve exhibition until 1 November 2026. Match Operator certification courses are also slated to run later this year, reflecting a growing network of dojangs and operators bringing VTKD to their communities.
More details on VTKD’s participation at the Asian Games to be announced in the coming months. Follow us on our Instagram for the latest updates.
